We are bringing, with the huge help of LICAF, a very special Smurfs exhibition to Kendal!

The Smurfs incredible story began in October 1958, in the pages of the Belgian magazine Spirou. “Johan and Pirlouit“, a comic strip set in the Middle Ages created by Pierre Culliford (known as Peyo) featured the first, modest appearance by characters that have gone on to become international stars in comics, books, film and other media.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2019 is pleased to announce nine Belgian comic creators are part of the line-up for this year’s weekend-long event in Kendal in October – an event that will also offer a fine blend of Belgian culture beyond the printed page!

Nearly 70 comic creators from fourteen countries form this year’s guest list, including, from Belgium, creators Serge Baeken, EphameronLoic GaumeBen GijsemansValentine Laffitte, Pascal LemaitreMarine Schneider, Judith Vanistendael and Joris Vermassen.
