This Spring, a festival of a new kind will be taking place! To celebrate 50 years of financing French speaking Belgian cinema, Wallonie Bruxelles Images and Wallonie Bruxelles International present the Festival of French Speaking Belgian Cinema in partnership with Festival Scope (festivalscope.com).
Open to film lovers of the world and amateurs of Belgian culture alike, the festival will take place from March 22nd. Selected by Festival Scope, 15 films, shorts and features, both fiction and documentary, will be presented. Tickets are free and limited to 500 per film. The selection includes cult films, such as TOTO THE HERO by Jaco van Dormael, Golden Camera at the Cannes Festival and César for Best Foreign Film in 1991, and the acclaimed PANIC AT THE VILLAGE by Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar. Classic films have also been programmed to rejoice hungry cinema lovers, including JEANNE DIELMAN by Chantal Akerman.
Young talents share the spotlight for this first edition. Rachel Lang (BADEN BADEN) will be presenting her short film FOR YOU I WILL FIGHT next to awarded shorts KAPITALISTIS by Pablo Muñoz Gomez and MAY DAY by Olivier Magis and Fedrik De Beul.
The diversity of Belgian creativity is on display for this first edition with varied genres including horror (AMER, directing duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani’s tribute to the Italian giallo), socialism, animation, realism, experimental, thriller and the essential comedy (ICBERG by Fiona Gordon and Dominique Abel) since one can’t forget the famous Belgium humour! Festival Scope (festivalscope.com) is the online cinema for film lovers worldwide to watch films selected in the most prestigious film festivals (Rotterdam, Berlin, Cannes, Locarno and Venice to name a few) just after their premiere at the festival.
