Belgian Film Maker - Andre Bonzel

André Bonzel, Remy Belvaux and Benoît Poelvoorde had practically no budget at all to make this movie. They were studying Cinema in Belgium at that time, and had to make their own movie as their thesis. They decided to film in black and white, and went for a black humor fiction which would look like a documentary.

The movie was a huge success in 1992 and quickly became a cult movie. The movie won numerous prizes like the International Critics Prize at Cannes Film Festival in 1992.

Synopsis

The activities of rampaging, indiscriminate serial killer Ben (Benoît Poelvoorde) are recorded by a willingly complicit documentary team, who eventually become his accomplices and active participants. Ben provides casual commentary on the nature of his work and arbitrary musings on topics of interest to him, such as music or the conditions of low-income housing, and even goes so far as to introduce the documentary crew to his family. But their reckless indulgences soon get the better of them.
